About Our Club

Founded in September of 2023, Canine Companions at UConn (Canine Companions Collar Scholars at UConn)
is a student-run organization focused on the raising, support, and education of service, facility, and therapy dogs.

We were inspired by officers Justin Cheney and J.B. (Handlers of Tildy and Carson) and the wonderful impact they have on the University of Connecticut!

Our Committees:

Sponsorship and Supplies Committee:
This committee is dedicated to securing food sponsorships through creative strategies, engaging potential donors via community connections. They also collaborate with local pet stores, rescues, and organizations to ensure a steady supply of essential items. Building relationships with veterinarians is a priority to ensure comprehensive support for the well-being of the animals in the program.

Recruitment Committee:
The Recruitment Committee focuses on expanding the organization by actively seeking new members. They engage in high-visibility activities such as involvement fairs and expos, complemented by a strategic poster campaign. Additionally, they spearhead community outreach initiatives to connect with potential volunteers and supporters.

Puppy Committee:
Members of the Puppy Committee play a crucial role in supporting puppy raisers and temporary caretakers. Offering guidance and training advice, this committee ensures that all raisers are equipped with the necessary knowledge and resources. The Puppy Committee serves as a central hub for those involved in the early stages of the animals' development.

Media Committee:
The Media Committee is responsible for capturing the heartwarming moments and activities within the organization. Through photography, videography, and other content creation, they curate material for social media platforms. Additionally, they prepare newsletters, social media posts, and stories to keep the community informed and engaged.

Fundraising and Event Planning Committee:
This committee takes charge of planning and executing a variety of events, fundraisers, and member-focused activities. From puppy parties to specialized events like the Hot Dog gathering, the committee ensures a diverse range of opportunities for both fundraising and fostering a sense of community among members.
